Njeri Maina was injured on Tuesday, August 22 after she was attacked by goons in Kerugoya Town.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has threatened to sue Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina after she accused her of paying goons to beat her.

Maina in a Facebook post on August 24 alleged that Waiguru paid youths who attacked her during her event last week to go into hiding.

“I know you’ve sent your goons Kshs. 30,000 each to go to hiding through your agent called Kings. I’m also aware you’ve intimidated the principal Kamiigua polytechnic against giving us grounds for bursaries to orphans,” Maina claimed.

In a demand letter through her lawyers on Saturday August 27, Governor Waiguru termed the publication as malicious saying it is meant to tarnish her image and disparage her reputation.

The Kirinyaga Governor demanded Maina to retract the statements and to desist attacking her on any platform.

She also demanded the UDA Women Rep to issue an apology on her Facebook page and through a newspaper.

“Immediately publish an unconditional apology to our Client through the same medium used to defame our Client that is your Facebook page. Further, you should publish an appropriate apology in a newspaper of nationwide circulation,” the letter read in part.

“We further demand that you admit liability for our Client's claim. We shall thereafter engage you on the quantum of damages and costs consequential to your liability.”

Waiguru gave Maina an ultimatum of seven days to comply to the demands or face defamatory charges in court.

This comes after Maina was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital after she was injured on August 22 when goons disrupted her meeting in Kerugoya.
