Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has weighed in on the proposal to create the office of the official opposition leader.

Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, August 29, Nyamu supported the proposal saying it will keep election losers legitimate, accountable, and busy. 

“The issue of the winner takes it all in our elections has been a thorn in the flesh if this dialogue is going to address this issue once and for all, I support the creation of the office of the official opposition so that we can keep the election loser legitimate, accountable and busy,” said Nyamu. 

The UDA senator at the same time defended herself after a report by Mzalendo Trust listed her among the most least active senators.

She said she was not aware that there are people who take count on how many times lawmakers speak in Parliament.

“I did not know that there are people out there whose work is to count how many times we speak in this Senate,” she stated.

Nyamu however promised to put effort into speaking in the Senate to keep the researchers busy with their work.

“Since I’m aware, I’ll make sure I keep them very busy,” the UDA senator added.

Mzalendo in a report on August 9 listed Nyamu together with Mirah Abdullahi, Joyce Korir Shakilla Abdalla, George Mbugua, Issa Boy Juma, Chimera Mwinzago and Hezena Lemaletian as the least active senators.

Samson Cherargei, Eddy Oketch, John Kinyua, and Mohamed Faki were ranked as the most vocal senators.
