Paradigm Initiative partners with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) to conduct digital security training for digital media practitioners. 

Paradigm Initiative (PIN), a pan- African organisation that advocates for digital rights and inclusion, joined hands with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), to conduct digital security training for bloggers and content creators in the country. 

The three-day training, which kicked off on Monday, September 4, and ended on Wednesday, September 6, was conducted at Panari Hotel along Mombasa Road in Nairobi County.  

The training saw over 30 bloggers from the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) equipped with essential tools and practices to protect their online presence and safeguard sensitive information.

Mr Adeboye Adegoke, who is the Senior Manager Grants and Programs Strategy at Paradigm Initiative, noted that the organisation had developed several resources, including digital security toolkits, namely Ayeta and Ripoti, for use by various stakeholders.

On the other hand, Ms. Christine Nguku, Assistant Director Training and Curriculum Development at MCK, mentioned that training is essential for digital creators to improve their skills in generating professional content. 

Mr. Martin Wachira, during the training of content creators, at Panari Hotel. Mr. Wachira, is the Founder of Nairobileo.co.ke, one of the leading digital native media houses in Kenya. 

Martin Wachira, who is the Founder of Nairobileo.co.ke, engaged the content creators on the impact the Finance Act 2023 will have on digital media practitioners after the introduction of the 5% withholding tax.  

Mr. Wachira also delved into matters of law governing the digital space, the latest developments by Meta and Google, and the importance of digital media practitioners registering their organizations and ensuring they file their taxes.  

Ms Miriam Beatrice, Paradigm Initiative’s Program Officer, East Africa, stated that besides that the organisation is keen on working with MCK to empower various target groups with digital security training.
