A woman said to be working as a barmaid in Kagio town in Kirinyaga county has surrendered to police after allegedly stabbing her lover to death.

The 38-year-old woman is said to have committed the incident on Monday before she opted to take herself to authorities.

The two are said to be residents of the Gichugu constituency. They were renting a house at the trading centre as they conducted their hustling activities.

Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander Moses Koskei confirmed the incident and said the suspect is currently in custody.

"The victim was stabbed five times. He succumbed due to excessive bleeding as a result of the stabs. We have launched investigations to ascertain the motive behind the incident," Koskei stated.

The suspect who is currently being held at Kagio police station is set for interrogation for further details about the incident.

The remains of the deceased were taken to Kerugoya Referral Hospital mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted.
