The Ugandan State House official told off Ruto over his statement that East Africa has food shortage.

President William Ruto's digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has clashed with Uganda's State House official over President William Ruto's meeting with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ruto on Wednesday met Zelensky during which a deal was sealed to have the foreign nation set up a grain hub in the port of Mombasa.

"In New York, the United States held talks with Ukraine President Zelensky who committed to establishing a grain hub in the Port of Mombasa to address food shortage in East Africa."

The statement by Ruto attached a reaction to Duncan Abigaba, a director at Uganda's State House, who told off President Ruto saying East Africa does not need a grain reserve.

Abigaba said the issue of grain should be a Kenyan issue and not East Africa saying there is more than enough food in East Africa.

"Uganda has nowhere to sell her excess milk, eggs, bananas, etc., and then there is President William Ruto forcing a food shortage in East Africa. Mr. President, hii ni shida ya Kenya peke yake. Kenya isn’t East Africa! Carry your Zelenskyy cross alone!" Abigaba told President Ruto.

The comment saw Itumbi fired back with a report indicating that Uganda is also facing a food shortage.

The State blogger said Uganda is also in a food crisis as some half a million people have been facing hunger in the Karamoja area.

"The facts indicate there is an acute and widespread food problem in some parts of UG, like in other parts of EAC. 582K people in one part of UG facing an acute food shortage," Itumbi fired back.

Abigaba, however, fired back at Itumbi explaining why Uganda is not in a food crisis.

"Mheshimiwa, Karamoja is the driest sub-region of Uganda, with 3% of our population. Those aren't good parameters for your conclusion. Today, Uganda produces excess; 400 million litres of milk, 3 million tonnes of maize, 160,000 tonnes of sugar, and 400 million eggs. This is what Kenya has blockaded!"

Uganda has been having issues with Kenya after it banned some imports to allow local goods to get to market.
