Brian Mwenda was released on a Ksh 200,000 cash bail.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has paid fake Lawyer Brian Mwenda’s two hundred-thousand-shilling cash bail after the court freed him.

In a statement via his X account, Sonko explained that he made the payment to the Judiciary’s account through M-Pesa and that Mwenda will not spend another night in custody.

“Lawyer Brian Mwenda has just been granted a cash bail of 200k by the court. As promised earlier, I have already made the payment to the judiciary's account at KCB bank via Mpesa to ensure he doesn't spend another night in prison. Mungu ni mwema,” Sonko stated.

The former County boss had on October 13 promised to bail out Mwenda and sponsor him to study at the Kenya School of Law.

“I will bail out this comrade and sponsor him aende KSL kama hana doo. This man has been masquerading as an advocate, he never went to any law school and KSL,” Sonko said.

Mwenda was released after Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ruled that there was no compelling reason to deny the accused a cash bail.

"I therefore release the accused person on a bond of Sh300,000 or a cash bail of Sh200,000 with one contact person," Onyina ruled.

Mwenda was arrested on October 17 over allegations of making a fake certificate for admission to practice law as an Advocate, uttering a false document and identity theft.

He however denied the allegations. The case will be mentioned on November 7, 2023.
