The Azimio coalition had picked Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje to replace Sabina Chege.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced he will deliver a ruling on the National Assembly Minority Whip position on Wednesday, October 24.

Speaking in the house on Tuesday, Speaker Wetang’ula said the fate between Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje and Nominated MP Sabina Chege will be communicated at 2.30 pm.

“In the matter of Sabina Chege, Mark Mwenje, Jubilee, and Azimio, I will deliver my ruling tomorrow at 2.30 pm,” said Wetang’ula.

The announcement comes after the Azimio bipartisan team threatened to scatter the bipartisan talks retreat in Nakuru County over the delay by Speaker Wetang’ula in the effecting of Mwenje as the Deputy Minority Whip in replace of Chege.

“You want us to be pretending to engage in some dialogue in Bomas and yet you are frustrating one of the cardinal issues that are under dialogue which is interference of political parties and multi-party democracy,” Opiyo Wandayi said on Saturday.

The Kiambu High Court last week dismissed Chege’s appeal challenging the Azimio coalition’s decision to remove her from the National Assembly Deputy Minority Whip position.

In her ruling, Justice Dora Chepkwony directed the former Murang’a Women Rep to launch her complaint in a proper forum.

“The petitioner had not exhausted all the available alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms as provided under the Political Parties Act and hence the court did not have the jurisdiction to hear and determine the petition,” she ruled.
