Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the top student in the 2023 KCPE exams scored 428 marks.
Machogu announced the results on Thursday, November 23, at KNEC Headquarters at South C, Nairobi.
According to the CS, only 8,523 students scored over 400 marks.
This represents a drop compared to the 2022 results where 9,443 candidates scored 400 marks and above.
352,782 candidates scored between 300-399 marks while 658,278 scored between 200-299 marks.

Machogu said only two candidates were involved in exam malpractices.
One had a note while the other had a mobile phone.
Over 1.4 million candidates sat for the 2023 KCPE exams which is the last in the era of the 8-4-4 system.
Going forward, the students will be tried under the competency-based curriculum.
All seeking to know the results of the KCPE candidates are to send the candidate's index number to 40054.
For example, if 23467847002 is your index number, type 23467847002 then send it to 40054.
The SMS platform is for all mobile networks and users will be charged Sh25 each per SMS.
Candidates can access detailed results of their exams from their respective examination centres later on.
If a candidate wants to check the exam results using the Knec web portal, he or she is advised to head to the KCPE tab and select the year they sat the national exams, and enter their Index number.
Students are asked to be patient while using the platform owing to a large number of requests sent at the same time which results in delays.
