This is the third time Francis Atwoli has been appointed to a government role. 

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli has been appointed as a member of the Social Health Authority by Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.

According to a special notice issued on Wednesday, November 22, Atwoli will serve in the authority for a period of three years.

The trade unionist will serve alongside Zakayo Kariuki Gichuki and Jacinta Kathamu Mutegi.

In the same notice, President William Ruto appointed Timothy Olweny to serve as the chairperson of the Social Health Authority for a period of three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Social Health Insurance Act. 1. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Timothy Olweny (DR.) to be the Chairperson of the Social Health Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 22nd November, 2023,” the special gazette notice read in part.

This is the third time Atwoli has been appointed to a government role Labour CS Florence Bore on May 5 appointed the renowned Trade Unionist as a member of the National Labour Board.

On June 21, the COTU SG was appointed by President Ruto to the Director of Public Prosecution selection panel. The panel recommended the appointment of current DPP Renson Mulele Ingonga.
