Nyakang'o stated that she was trailed by a car from Karen playing golf to their home in Nairobi at night.

Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang'o has revealed details of what transpired the night before she was arrested and presented in court in Mombasa over fraud charges. 

Speaking to Citizen TV on Wednesday, December 6, Nyakang'o stated that she was trailed by a car from Karen playing golf to their home. Luckily she was in the company of her husband.

Upon reaching home, the men who had trailed them disembarked on the car and approached the couple. According to Nyakang'o, they introduced themselves and told her that she was required to record a statement at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).

Nyakang'o did not give in to the instructions promptly. She tried to convince them to record the statement at her home, but they insisted on driving her back to Nairobi CBD.

She finally gave in to their demands only for it to turn out to be one hell of a night for the Controller of Budget who had commenced her leave on December 4.

Upon reaching the Anti-Banking Fraud Unit manned by DCI officers, the whole narrative changed and the officers informed her that she was supposed to be taken to Mombasa.

Since she had not eaten, she requested the officers to allow her husband to bring some food which they nicely agreed to. After feasting together with the officers, they instructed Nyakang'o's husband to return home.

The said men then started the journey, driving to Mombasa by road.

They reached Mombasa on Tuesday, December 5 where she was presented to local DCI officers and was later taken to court for prosecution.

Nyakang'o was accused of conspiracy to defraud and operating a Sacco without a licence among other charges. She was however released on a cash bail of Ksh500,000.

During the Citizen TV interview, she also denied the allegations levelled against her expressing her willingness to clear her name.
