The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a man for posing as a personal assistant to a Principal Secretary and demanded a Ksh1.5 million bribe.

The suspect identified as Mark Kipruto Kuto was arrested red-handed with the Ksh1.5 million bribe money sealed in an envelope inside a restaurant in Nairobi on Tuesday, January 30.

According to preliminary reports, the suspect solicited the money from a man who sought a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position at a Sugar company.

The anti-graft body explained that Kipruto had convinced the complainant that he would help him secure the position which was advertised in December 2023.

Confirming the arrest, EACC spokesperson Eric Gumbi told a section of the media that the complainant filed a report leading to the swift operation inside a restaurant in the Central Business District.

The suspect was transferred to the Integrity Center for processing before he was moved to Kilimani Police Station awaiting arraignment.

He is expected to be charged with impersonation and dealing with graft in court on Wednesday, January 31.

His arrest came hours after EACC officers nabbed two police officers demanding a Ksh4,000 bribe to release a motorbike.

"The suspects, currently held at EACC Bungoma Regional Offices, will spend the night at Bungoma Police Station pending arraignment before the Anti-Corruption Court, tomorrow, Wednesday," EACC indicated.
