The body of the late General Francis Ogolla has been airlifted to Kisumu from Nairobi.

The plane ferrying the deceased's remains landed in the lakeside city a few moments past 8:00 am on Sunday, April 21.

From the airport in Kisumu, the body would be transported by road to Alego Usonga in Siaya County, where Ogolla will be laid to rest.
The KDF chopper carrying General Ogolla''s body landed in Kisumu moments past 8:00 am.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo explained that the military, owing to Ogolla's rank and status, would handle the whole program.

He said the funeral service would be done by 1:00 pm, after which the body would be taken to the gravesite for the final rites.

"The members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will preside over the programme given that Ogolla was a senior-most member of the military, not a trainee," said Omollo.

The PS further confirmed President William Ruto's attendance, accompanied by other high-profile dignitaries.
After landing, the body will be transported to Siaya via road.
Omollo added that Ogolla's final rites would be per his wishes, noting that he would be laid to rest at the particular spot he earmarked before his tragic death.

"Omollo specified in his will that he would want a simple send-off ceremony. He even even notified his family where he would like to be buried," said Omollo.

The fallen KDF chief general stipulated in his will that he be laid to rest within 72 hours after his demise.

Further, Ogolla shunned any use of a coffin to bury him, wanting his body to be interred wrapped in sheets.
Owing to io his rank, the late Ogolla will receive a 19-gun salute honour.

Ogolla died in a tragic KDF chopper crash on April 18 in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

He died alongside nine other military personnel who were in his company during his working tour of the North Rift region.

The fallen CDF is survived by his wife, Aileen Ogolla, and their two children, Joel Rabuku and Lorna Omondi Ogolla.
