"It is up to IPOA to tell us how it ended up that Kenyans are killed in this manner and then it was business as usual," he said.

Contrary to his earlier announcement that Ex-DCI boss George Kinoti had resigned from office, President Willliam Ruto on Wednesday revealed that he fired him.

In an interview with media houses, President Ruto said he had to crack the whip on the ex-DCI boss following increasing cases of extrajudicial killings yet it was business as usual within the force.

The Head of State questioned how the country ended up in such a situation with no stern action being taken to tame the cases.

"We had bodies being dumped; River Yala 30 bodies, Garrisa 17 even somewhere in Nairobi there was a container where people were being killed in a police station. How did we end up here? What kind of rogue institution were we having?"

"That is why I fired this man Kinoti because all these were not right and there will be someone to take the responsibility."

The President added that why they have tasked IPOA to start investigations to unearth the killings and ensure perpetrators are brought to book.

"It is up to IPOA to tell us how it ended up that Kenyans are killed in this manner and then it was business as usual," he said.

When he named his cabinet in September last year, Ruto announced that Kinoti had resigned.

"I have received the resignation of DCI Kinoti and I have transmitted the same to the NPS to proceed with advertising the job and get someone to act in the position," he said at State House.
