A Police Officer has shot one civilian dead while injuring four civilians in Muhoroni, Kisumu County.

This is after three officers were stabbed in a fight with the mob. The residents had mistaken the three as robbers coming to steal from them.

According to reports, trouble kicked in when the said officers raided a shop at Sidho East Sub Location to flush out smuggled tobacco by a suspect meant for export and was being sold within.

The alleged wife to the suspect managing the shop raised the alarm of the raid as she believed thugs were robbing her.

Residents responded to the distress calls as they thronged the shop awaiting to deal with the thugs.  

"We knew they were thieves and that is why everyone turned up to deal with them," witness revealed.

Coming days after Kabete shooting spree by Police Constable Benson Imbatu, who killed six civilians before turning the gun on himself on December 7.

According to his colleagues, he had been under the Independent Policing Oversight Authority(IPOA) probe over the alleged murder of Nicholas Lifedi in mid-2021.

"Most officers dread going to prison. Imagine being in the same facility with people you put in," one of his colleagues disclosed.

However, President Uhuru Kenyatta, during the 48th General Service Unit graduation at Embakasi, Nairobi, appealed for the administrators to speak out.

Adding that, they should exercise restraint when faced with work challenges instead of misusing firearms.

"As custodians of public safety and our internal security, you are the watchers on the wall who safeguard our rights, freedoms, and our way of life.

"You must live true to the oath you have taken at all times, whether on duty or otherwise, be model officers whom others will emulate," President Uhuru stated.
