Murkomen confirmed to Kenyans that he is fully in the race to defend his seat

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has finally bowed to demands by a section of his residents to produce campaign posters and officially declare whether he will be defending his seat in the August 9th general polls.

This was after a number of residents, especially those from Elgeyo Marakwet county called on Murkomen to at least give them his posters even if the Ruto allied senator did not want to campaign for his re-election.

Murkomen, who is among Deputy President William Ruto's close lieutenants from the Rift Valley, had left many guessing about his next political move, with some questioning whether he was considering any potential post in Ruto's administration.

Despite this, Murkomen on Monday evening, came out to confirm to his residents and Kenyans that he is fully in the race to defend his seat.

"The long-awaited poster is out. Loyal to the people and true to the course. Thank you for your love and support #Senator028" posted Murkomen on his social, media posts.

So far, the senator has no major competitor in the county who will be seeking a UDA party ticket. He will, however, square it out with the incumbent Governor Alex Tolgos, who has since announced that he will be going for the Senate seat on an Azimio la Umoja ticket.

Engineer Tolgos is the second governor from the North Rift to launch a bid for Senate after Jackson Mandago of Uasin Gishu who is also serving his last term. Mandago declared his interest in December 2021.
