The running mate issue has threatened the unity of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition considering that both sides are pushing for their favourite candidate.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi now wants Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka named as ODM leader Raila Odinga's running mate.

In a letter to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition party, Gideon fronted Kaolonzo as the ideal candidate for the running mate seat.

He said the Wiper boss is KANU's preferred candidate for the seat.

"The Kenya National African Union (KANU) hereby proposes and submits the name of H.E HON STEPHEN KALONZO as its preferred candidate for the position of Deputy President in the forthcoming general elections," Senator Moi said.

"It is our considered opinion and strongly believes that Kalonzo fits the bill and is the most suitable individual to deputize Raila."

This comes even as the 7-member panel formed to propose the suitable running mate for Odinga opened the window for those seeking the seat to apply.

The panel is set to vet all candidates and propose a name of those suitable for the seat.

"It is our sincere hope that this panel will consider and find him appropriate for the position of Deputy President and consequently recommend his selection as such," Senator Gideon Moi said.
