There are 31 days remaining ahead of the August general election.

Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr has asked the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati to instill confidence in Kenyans ahead of the August general election.

At a press briefing on Friday, July 8, the lawmaker told the IEBC chair that he will be to blame if anything goes wrong with the polls.

Kilonzo added that Chebukati should stand up for the upcoming election adding that he had less than 30 days to give the country a credible election.

“You (Chebukati) have less than 30 days to give us a credible election. We will blame you as a country if there is any problem with this election. We have told you in advance that you must give Kenyans the confidence they require that you are in charge of our election,” Kilonzo said.

According to the lawmaker, the IEBC chair should come clean on concerns raised about the printing of ballot papers.

This comes after Azimio Secretary-General Junet Mohamed sensationally claimed that there was a plan to sneak ballot papers from Uganda through the Bungoma border.

However, the IEBC chair dismissed the allegations, saying that all ballot papers would arrive through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

"All the ballot papers will arrive through the Jomo Kenyatta international airport. No Ballot papers will arrive through Uganda. I have seen several reports but as long as we are following the law then we are not worried," Chebukati told the press.
