She was meant to receive  one-fourteenth's of her father's wealth, but she declined without giving any reasons.


The late Nicholas Biwott is widely known in the country as being a long-time serving politician, a close ally of former President the late Daniel Moi, and lastly, an established businessman with investments in different sectors across the country. 

Biwott died in July 2017, leaving a vast estate which was to be distributed among his beneficiaries as stipulated in his will.

Sources privy to the will indicated that the deceased's children were meant to each receive one-fourteenth of his wealth. however, one of his daughters turned down the offer. 

In a letter addressed to the late Biwott estate managers, Rita Field-Marsham, one of the former minister's daughters requested to be removed from the list of beneficiaries.

Rita is one of the daughters Biwott bore with his Dutch wife, Johanna. The other daughter is named Rhoda Jakobsoon.

In accordance to the deceased's will, Rita who's a lawyer and humanitarian based in Canada, was meant to receive one-fourteenth's of her father's wealth.

She, however, declined the offer without giving reasons. Prior to his death, Biwott had indicated that in case any of the beneficiaries turn down their inheritance, it should be distributed equally among the other beneficiaries.

“I am named as a beneficiary of a share of the deceased’s estate. I wish to disclaim all my right, title, and interest to the share in the deceased’s estate," she was quoted by Nation.

According to information on her LinkedIn page, Rita is the founder and CEO of The Charles and Rita Field-Marsham Foundation which advances education and nurtures healthy, inclusive communities.

She's also a board member of the Andre De Grasse Family Foundation, and board governor of the M-Pesa Foundation Academy among other roles.

Rita is a graduate of McGill University in Canada and Edinburg University in the United Kingdom where she studied economics and political science and law respectively.

She is married to Charles Field-Marsham; a Canadian businessman with over 25 years of experience in building businesses in different countries across the world.
