Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has urged African Countries to rethink the use of technology in conducting general elections.
Speaking on Tuesday during the 2022 leadership conference in Abuja Nigeria, the former Prime Minister stated that some people take advantage of the use of technology to rig elections in favor of specific candidates.
“African countries must rethink the use of technology in elections. Some people have taken advantage of technology to subvert the will of the people,” Raila stated.
The ODM leader noted that there is a need for electoral reforms to make the voting process more accessible and reliable by enhancing protection against mistakes irregularity confusion and fraud.
He also asked African countries to put sanctions and help in the ouster of any President who comes to power through a rigged election.
“It should be clear that whoever makes a move to ascend to power by means other than incredible and constitutional elections not only be condemned but subjected to sanctions and removal from such office,” Raila added.
Raila left Kenya on Monday, January 30, and was accompanied by Azimio spokesperson Prof Makau Mutua.
