Cherargei's remarks come days after National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi claimed that most civil servants including MPs were yet to receive their March salaries.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei now says that Kenya Airways (KQ) should be generating revenue equivalent to Ethiopian Airlines to help the country in the current economic crisis.

In an update via Twitter on Monday, April 10 Cherargei stated that KQ should be generating at least Ksh 3.5 trillion which can be used to pay salaries for all civil servants and pay debts.

“The current economic crisis and lack of jobs, KQ should be aiming to generate revenues similar to Ethiopian Airlines of 25 B. USD equivalent to 3.5T /= as per their projections. This can pay our debts and all salaries to public servants. KQ loses 100M daily,” said Chereragei.

The UDA Senator asked the Kenya Kwanza government to revive the airline and make it profitable.

“GOK should move with speed and immediately restructure/revive these corporations / airline to profitability,” Cherargei added.

His remarks come days after National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi claimed that most civil servants including MPs were yet to receive their March salaries.

"For the first time in our history, even MPs have not been paid as we head towards mid-month," Wandayi stated.

He added, "Today, about six months into this regime, Kenya cannot pay salaries, leave alone finance its other operations. This is the sad state of affairs that the administration is hiding from Kenyans."
