“The Nairobi County leadership is not hustler-friendly. That is why I keep prodding Sakaja Johnson on it."

Economist David Ndii has slammed Nairobi Governor Johson Sakaja after Nairobi County askaris raided smokie and mayai vendors, destroying their property.

In a statement via X on Wednesday, October 18, Ndii said the Nairobi County leadership is not hustler friendly.

He noted that Sakaja campaigned on an order platform ahead of the 2022 general elections with a plan to put hustlers in markets.

“The Nairobi County leadership is not hustler friendly. That is why I keep prodding Sakaja Johnson on it. Sakaja run on an “order” platform. His plan was to put hustlers in markets which is #UpperDeck sillyness. Street vendors are on streets because that is where customers are,” said the Presidential Council of Economic Advisors chairperson.

His statement comes after a section of Kenyan online expressed their displeasure with Sakaja’s administration for raiding street food vendors in Nairobi CBD.

Photos seen by Nairobileo.co.ke captured several trollies impounded by the Nairobi County officers and loaded into lorries.

In another photo, eggs and smokies could be seen all over the road with broken glass from the trollies beside them.
